History

On July 6th, 1975, the Government council president, Ahmed Abdallah, declares the independence of the Comoros, which becomes an Islamic Federal republic. The Comoros national Gendarmerie is created in 1978. The decree n° 83022/PR concerns the Gendarmerie internal service organization and functioning. In 1991, this corps merges with the Defence Comoran Force (DCF), become in 1996 the Development National Army (DNA). In 1997, the corps is equipped with specialized training such as the High Personalities Security Group (HPSG), the "Site Guard" and the motorized brigade. In 2011, the Comoran Gendarmerie structures are reorganized. Before the independence of Comoros, the French gendarmerie established in this archipelago belongs to the detachment of Madagascar.
